Planet Aid
In setting up our business Noelle and I tried to find as many eco friendly products for Goodnight Moon Futon as I could find and we're still searching for more. So, in my browsing the internet I found a blog called PlanetAid and thought I should share with my readers what Planet Aid is and what they stand for.
So let's cover the basics:
Planet Aid is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people in developing countries. Planet Aids objectives include development, protecting the environment, and relief aid.
You may be asking what they do though, so here goes.
Planet Aid has clothing collection boxes similar to the ones the Salvation Army has through out the country. The collection boxes are used to, well, collect second hand clothing from ordinary Americans that want to contribute to a cause that doesn't fill our landfills. The clothing is regularly collected by one of Planet Aid's drivers and brought to our warehouse. The clothing is then packaged for re-sale before being shipped out by truck. Much of the clothing is either re-sold in U.S. and Canadian thrift shops or exported in bulk overseas to developing countries. Some of the clothing is donated to projects and organizations that we support.
The proceeds from the sale of the clothing are used for community development projects in Africa and Asia.
Planet Aid also has a large selection of volunteer opportunities for anyone interested in in making a difference. Volunteer activities can include but are not limited to hosting a clothing donation box, donating used electronics, or being involved in in an upcoming exhibit by Zimbabwean artists. Proceeds from the exhibit will go back into the Planet Aid fund.
So visit PlanetAid to find out the many ways in which you can get involved. Together we can make a difference in the lives of others in need.
