Are Hammocks The Next Best Thing?

Ok, I usually don't go into other styles of furniture (are hammocks even furniture?), but when I saw the hammocks at Honeymoon Hammocks I had to write a post about them. Seeing all the different hammocks available really brought back memories of the hammock at my grandparents house in upstate New York. So check them out, maybe they'll bring back some memories for you. :)

The Best Bunk Bed I've Ever Seen!

Ok, I've seen a lot of bunk beds through out my childhood and my time in the futon / bedding industry but the "Bedzilla" Bunk from Barn Door takes the cake. If "bunktastic" was a real word, it would probably have something to do with this bunk bed. Maybe I should copywrite that!

Futon City!?

Today I was working on my site, manning the phones and monitoring all the activity when I saw someone arrive from Futon City. For some reason this reminded me of Spatula City from Weird Al's UHF (not really sure what that says about my thought process) and I had to check it out. I know you're asking yourself, what is Futon City? Well, don't get to excited, it's just another ad site with links to futon retailers like my self. Good for me, but not too much fun for me too look at. Stay tuned for my next post about futons!

Add a little flare to your patio.

With winter approaching fast and temperatures dropping, nows the time to take advantage of your time outdoors. I found the perfect accessory to any outdoor occasion at More Than Light, a store that specializes in specialty lighting products. Now you can spice up the scene at your last parties of the season.

Futons and Platform Beds Made Sustainable

Great futons and beds are now made sustainable by a few Eco-conscious manufactures in the futon and bedding industries. The "Classic" platform bed, made by Pacific Rim is made from sustainable harvested maple. The "Classic" is available in five sizes and costs between $599 for twin and $799 for king. This gorgeous bed may cost a little more than a bed made in China, but it'll cost your karma a lot less.

Coming soon, Futon Bunk Beds

I've seen a recent surge of people searching for futon bunk beds and student work spaces. Up until now I had to send business elsewhere when people called looking for bunk beds, but that will be changing very soon. Goodnightmoonfuton.com will have futon bunks online before the end of September, so check back often.

Fun With Futons

Last week one of my customers replaced his twenty year old futon mattress with the traditional six futon mattress from my site and it got me thinking about how great futon mattresses can be. I was amazed that he still slept on a futon after twenty years of everyday use. So naturally I thought, "it would be great to see if I can get my readers to post their favorite futon stories to my blog".

So, if anyone out there wants to share their favorite futon stories, please do and please keep them PG13. I look forward to reading your comments.

Save Space With Futon Loveseats

Futon loveseats are a great option for anyone who is tight on space. Futon loveseats generally take up less wall space than a traditional futon frame, while still providing a twin, full, or queen futon bed once pulled down.

I have seen a lot of futon loveseats ship to places like New York, Miami, and Los Angeles where space is at a premium. So if you're looking to save space with style, a futon loveseat is the way to go.

You can view all the frames on my site that are available in loveseat sizes here.

Does Your School Allow You To Bring Your Futon?

Before you lug a futon all the way to school, you should really look into whether or not your school allows you to have any furnishings in your room that weren't there to begin with. Quite a few schools won't. But some schools will allow additional seating but not another mattress and that's where futons come into the picture. Futons are able to be used as both bedding and seating, technically making them "hybrid cushions". Now you can take your futon with you when you go to school.

So what happens if your school has strict requirements due to fire codes? Just about every futon mattress on the market today has to be compliant with Federal Fire Law Standard (16 CFR - Part 1633), making every mattress resistant to an open flame.

Do you need some protection for your mattress?

Are you looking for something to protect your son or daughters first mattress? Maybe something for an elderly relative? Well, I have the perfect product for you. Mattress protection has come a long way, no more crinkly plastic under the sheets with a Protect-A-Bed mattress cover. Protect-a-bed covers are washable, water proof yet breathable, and feel soft on the mattress.

Click here to see a Protect-A-Bed cover in action or visit My site for more information.

Is Free Shipping Really Free?

I always like to see what the competition is saying and selling, that's business. I have noticed that the majority of online futon retailers are claiming that they give you free shipping. I thought to myself, how can they do it? How can they ship a large item like a futon for free.? Did I give my UPS rep a call and ask him how they do it? Not a chance, sorry for the sarcasm, but it just isn't true. Any retailer that tells you that they offer free shipping, while at the same time they tell you that if you would like to return an item shipping is non-refundable is out right insulting your intelligence. This is a pretty standard practice for online futon retailers, but Goodnightmoonfuton.com is trying to be up front about the fact that shipping futons does cost money. You can see all of our frequently asked questions and the answers to them here.

National Fire Codes Make Futons Safer

July 1st, the federal government passed a new Federal Fire Law (16 CFR - Part 1633), which means every futon mattress manufactured must be able to resist an open flame burn test. So, what does that mean for you and me? Well, the first and foremost, fire resistance means safer futon mattresses. The flip side to this issue is that now futon mattresses are costing more to make, and those costs usually trickle down to the consumer. I guess that's just the cost of safety.

With the new fire codes, more fire retardant materials are now going into your futon mattress, which is a big turn off for anyone who wants an organic futon. But wait, did you know you can get a 100% organic mattress made with a doctors prescription. So if you're serious about getting an organic futon mattress, talk to your doctor and see what they can do for you.

You can see all of the futon mattresses that I carry here or contact us to get some info about our organic futon options.

Cheap Futons?

I've seen a lot of people searching for cheap futons in the last few months. It could be that college season is upon us or it could be that people are just being thrifty, i don't know. What I do know is that my customers are looking to get their moneys worth on whatever product they decide to purchase. So lets take a look at a "cheap" futon and a futon that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. To me "cheap futons" are the type that you find at those "mega marts", futons that look like a good deal but but might not withstand the test of time. Affordable futons, are futons within your budget that will actually give you a descent usable life, 5-7 years, and come with a warranty. It doesn't make much sense to buy a super cheap futon, only to replace it in a year or so.

You can browse through my selection of futon frames, futon mattresses, or just check out my site.

Futon Mattresses: Foam vs. Natural Fibers.

Finding the right futon mattress can sometimes feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. In your search for the perfect futon mattress you may have found mattresses that fall into several categories: all foam, all cotton, or foam and cotton combined.
A few things to keep in mind when you choose between the various mattresses on the market are:
1. Natural fiber futons will change over time, cotton can compress the more it's used.
2. Any futon mattress worth it's own weight, will have a warranty. If you can't find the warranty info listed, ask the retailer for it.
3. There are futon mattresses designed for sleeping, sitting or both. Make sure the futon you're looking at is right for how you'd like to use it.

Visit My site for more info or take a look at the futon mattresses that I carry here.

Eco-Friendly Futon Frames and Covers

Recently I have seen a surge in eco-friendly futon products on the market today. On my site, Goodnightmoonfuton I have begun carrying a line of futon frames made in the US from sustainable harvest lumber only. These futon frames are available unfinished or finished, in over a dozen styles. Also making an appearance are futon covers made from recycled materials with non-heavy metal dyes. Finally, some companies in the futon industry are trying to have less environmental impact and make a difference. You can view all of our futon covers here.

Futons with finished backs?

Are you as tired as I am of having to position your futon frame against the wall? If you are, then I have some good news for you. A company called Strata has now begun making gorgeous futon frames that have back panels, and as such can be positioned anywhere in your room. It's finally time to say goodbye to slats and say hello to style. You can find futon frames with finished back panels at www.goodnightmoonfuton.com among many other futon related products.
