National Fire Codes Make Futons Safer

July 1st, the federal government passed a new Federal Fire Law (16 CFR - Part 1633), which means every futon mattress manufactured must be able to resist an open flame burn test. So, what does that mean for you and me? Well, the first and foremost, fire resistance means safer futon mattresses. The flip side to this issue is that now futon mattresses are costing more to make, and those costs usually trickle down to the consumer. I guess that's just the cost of safety.

With the new fire codes, more fire retardant materials are now going into your futon mattress, which is a big turn off for anyone who wants an organic futon.
